These abstract series of paintings were inspired by the urbanscapes, bridges and structures around New York, where the artist lived for over two years. The paintings explore the dynamic of the brushstroke in a bold abstract expressionist style, looking at the possibilities of order and disorder to express the energy of the city. They explore the spontaneity and freedom of the artist's action to create form.
The paintings are created on board with oil paint on gesso. They are set within a white slip with a black wood frame.

Gabrielle ( Ella ) Moulding grew up in the idyllic countryside of the Cotswolds, studied in Scotland at Edinburgh University and worked in the Fine Arts industry in London. For 17 years she lived with her family around the world in France, South Africa, South Korea, Australia, Japan and the USA. She recently moved back to her hometown of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.
She has exhibited numerous times in Sydney, Tokyo, New York, New Jersey and London and the UK. Last year she was awarded the Gwen Mandley Memorial Award at the Chelsea Art Society, London. She has been selected for the Royal Institute of Oil Colour Annual exhibition, the Royal Institute of Watercolours exhibition at the Mall Galleries and the Royal Watercolour Society Exhibition, Bankside Gallery,
Gabrielle's paintings are inspired by the light in the landscapes, seascapes and urban world around her.
She loves to paint en Plein air in both oil colour and watercolour to keep the painting fresh and loves to draw in charcoal, pastel and pencil. The beauty of every day, the clarity and changes in the light, the pattern and composition of the landscape all inspire her. She also frequently draws from the figure to capture gesture in all mediums. She loves the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ process of painting and mark-making to capture the constantly changing landscape and likes the challenge of working in different mediums. She works in a painterly style and is not afraid to let the intuitive process take over. She is becoming more excited about the possibilities of abstraction in her work.
