Exceptional sculptural long beech Japanese inspired burnt wood coffee table or bench on two huge pedestal style supports, the beech top has copper bracings to manage the mature splits
This artisan coffee table is made from a large mature beech tree felled for safety in a built-up area in Chepstow Wales, the tree was approximately 80+ years old, and the pedestal supports also beech but from a younger tree.
This truly sublime artisan sculptural beech coffee table/bench has the most luxurious and sumptuous finish, this organic piece is influenced by a passion for the natural imperfections of fallen trees, sourced by the maker in rural Wales.
This Japanese-inspired table is finished with a technique called Shou Sugi Ban. It is a Japanese technique of preserving wood. The surface is charred with fire and then sanded back to a smooth surface. It is commonly used for the exterior cladding of buildings where the charred timber protects against insects and is a water repellant. In this case, the technique has been used to artistically enhance the appearance of this Japanese low table surface, accentuating the strong vivid grain of the trees.
Individual, age-old wood forms are considered for the beauty of their grain, flaws, and imperfections - debarked, then cut and shaped by hand, to showcase fresh, new abstract forms.
Equally, at home in both traditional and more contemporary settings, the coffee table is a timeless design that will add individuality and impact, within both home and commercial interior spaces.
The Coffee table is hand-finished in natural hard wax oil, and the beech hand-shaped top is 6 cm thick
